Weather

The Yangtze River serves as the dividing line between the North and South of China. Due to the wide range of landscapes found in China, there is not one time in the year when weather is ideal in every region. In winter, the warmest areas of China are in the South and Southwest. These include places such as Sichuan, Banna in Yunnan, and Hainan Island. In the summer, the coolest spots are in the Northeast.

The Yangtze River is situated in the subtropics at about 30° North and is usually accustomed to strong winds, humidity, and more cloud cover. The average temperature in July is 30 C (90 F) and can drop to 10 C (50 F) in January. Between July and September, water levels tend rise due to thunderstorms and heavy rains and the winter season can be exceptionally cold. The best time to take a cruise would be in the spring or in autumn.
